Los Angeles Center for Law and Justice awards Jones Day Los Angeles the Corporation of the Year award for 2009 and recognizes Associate Jenny Riggs as Volunteer of the Year
Jones Day has been selected as the Corporation of the Year by the Los Angeles Center for Law and Justice, in recognition of Jones Day's long history of and commitment to pro bono work, public service, and community involvement in Los Angeles. In making this award, LACLJ noted the outstanding quality of service, the team structure in staffing each matter, and the dedication the Firm has in encouraging attorneys to volunteer their time for families without the means or ability to access their legal rights. LACLJ recognized Jones Day’s commitment and leadership in LACLJ’s Advocate Program to help and empower victims of domestic violence with permanent restraining orders to help stop the cycle of violence. In 2009, Jones Day LA attorneys spent over 1,200 hours to serve and protect over thirteen victims of violence and their families. As part of that effort, Jones Day lawyers tried five cases to verdict, and in each case Jones Day successfully obtained a five-year restraining order for the client, the maximum permitted by law.
One key to Jones Day’s success is its staffing of the matters. Although the matters are tried by more junior lawyers, each matter is assigned a more senior trial lawyer to assist in developing trial strategy. As a result, Jones Day’s pro bono clients receive the value of Jones Day’s extensive trial experience.
LACLJ has also selected LA associate Jenny Riggs as the Volunteer of the Year. In addition to trying cases herself, Jenny has also provided strategic advice and support to junior lawyers trying LACLJ cases.
"Jones Day is always willing to take difficult cases with short notice. Most importantly, your attorneys are dedicated to provide the highest quality legal assistance to our clients, with patience, empathy, and emotional support throughout their legal case." Helen Hong, Executive Director, Los Angeles Center for Law & Justice (2/18/2010).
